On Tuesday 16th of September, 21 teams from across the country attended Nottingham University for the first Prison Service Festival of Volleyball.

The Festival saw just shy of 200 staff attend, competing in the Men’s, Mixed, and Women’s

competitions. Teams were split into groups with the top seeds from each group processing to the finals. Some very close games in the Mixed competition saw Bullingdon and Woodhill progress to the final. In what was an excellent game to watch, with high levels of skill and team work on show. In the end, Woodhill came out on top as the winners.

In the Women’s competition we saw Featherstone, and The Mount reach the final with The Mount claiming the win to be crowned the Women’s winner. But plenty of smiles and laughter from all the teams made for a great day of Women’s volleyball.

The Men’s competition started just after lunch with plenty of skill and power on show. The Men’s competition was the largest of the day and saw the teams split into 3 groups. Again, some very close games led to a tense wait at the end to see who would make the final as it went to total points scored.

Only 2 points overall separated 2nd and 3 rd which led to the final between Portland and Woodhill. This final showed the high level of volleyball that exists in the Prison Service. The final was a great finish to a wonderful day, and Woodhill finished the day as the Men’s winners.

Everyone had a great day with plenty of smiles and laughter. We look forward to year two and making the Festival of Volleyball a firm fixture in the PSSA calendar.
