A windy but sunny afternoon in the northwest, saw the English prison service football team line up against the UK fire and rescue service. This is the first time this fixture had been played in a long time and was very highly anticipated.
The game kicked off, and it was apparent straight away that it was going to be a very competitive game. As the first half continued the fire service controlled the majority of the possession with the England side making it very difficult to be broken down. A few quick breaks from the England side saw them threaten the fire service but the chances came to nothing.
The game was very competitive with strong tackles coming in from both sides and resulting in the referee putting a few names in the book early doors. As the first half was drawing to an end the fire service broke through on goal and with some great individual play from the front man saw a chance on goal appear. 1-0 to the fire service as the referee blew his whistle to end the first half.
The teams came out for the second half, and it began in the same fashion as the first half very strongly matched but with the prison service struggling to get a foot hold of the game.
Two quick fire goals from the fire service put England on the back foot and they never really recovered from this. England created a few chances but struggled to work the fire service goal. Another two late goals from the fire service but the game beyond all reasonable doubt.
The game finished 5-0 to the UK fire service and a very disappointing result from the England side.
As always, a huge thank you to Burscough FC for hosting the game, thank you to all the match sponsors and associations on both sides.
This was the last game of 2025 for the England side, and they will meet up after Christmas to play the Royal air service at Ilkeston Town on Thursday 22nd January 2026.
